It’s a busy summer for me as I have three shows back-to-back-to-back but I’m very excited about them. Here’s the information regarding all three, if you’re in the area please stop by and see some of my new pieces (And don’t be afraid to take one home).

The Photographers’ Gallery – July 14th through August 10th
I am the featured artist in this group show of landscape photography. I’ll have a total of 12 images in the show including some new work from my 2009 collection. I’ll be at the reception so be sure to say “Hi”.

The Mistlin Gallery – August 4th through August 27th
Another group show featuring my work and other members of the Photo Collective, a local photography group that I belong to. This is our annual member’s show and we have a wonderful venue this year. I’ll be showing 3 or 4 new images in the show.

The Appel Gallery – September 2009
This is a solo show, my first major solo exhibition actually. I’ll be featuring a number of new pieces along with some of my greatest hits. I’m very excited and have been working on the images, title cards etc. for months.

I’ve been named a Hasselblad Master Finalist for 2009

I heard the news yesterday, I’ve been named one of the 10 finalist for the Hasselblad landscape master award for 2009. I had the honor of being named a finalist last year as well but didn’t win, I’m hoping to change my luck this year.

Hasselblad’s Master Awards are one of the most recognized awards in photography and I’m honored to be named one of the 10 finalist again this year. They’re doing things a bit differently this year by opening up part of the voting to the public. I haven’t heard when voting will open or how it will be done but when its time, I’d really appreciate your vote. Thanks.

May 2009 Newsletter

I finally sent out my May 2009 fine art newsletter. If you don’t know yet I have a new Fine Art site up, www.edwardmendesphotography. I’ve been working on it for a couple of months and I’m finally finished. The newsletter focused mostly on the new site and also some of the new things I’m doing. One of which is I’m really kicking up my workshop offerings, with four weekend workshops in Yosemite, Big Sur and Mono lake. They should be great, if you’d like more info on them head over to my website.

2010 Photography Workshops announced

This is something that I’ve been asked about for a long time and I’m finally ready to do it.  I’ve taught workshops and lead photography trips in the past but I’ve finally decided to do offer them on my own instead of through a gallery or group.  The workshops are weekend length, we meet on Friday evening for a social hour, we’ll chat, talk photography and I’ll get a general sense of where the group is skill wise.  The days will be filled with photography, classroom sessions will discuss techniques and tips while the  in-the-field sessions will give you the opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice and create new images.  We’ll end the workshops around 6pm on Sunday so you have a chance to get home and to work the next day.  I want the workshops to fit into everyone’s budget so these weekend workshops are only $295.  If you’d like more information on the workshops visit my workshops page.

We’ll be working in some of the most photography rich areas in the world here is a list of classes.

• Yosemite in the Winter February 5th-7th, 20100 2 day in-field workshop
• The Big Sur Coast April 30th to May 2nd, 20100 2 day in-field workshop
• Yosemite in the Spring May 7-9th, 20100 2 day in-field workshop
• Mono Lake and the Eastern Sierras October 8th to 10th, 20100 2 day in-field workshop
• Private Workshops (Year Around)

My New Fine Art Site is Up!

I’ve been working on it for a couple of months and its finally finished, www.edwardmendesphotography.com.  It features all my artwork, posters, desktop downloads and workshops.  I’m really happy with it and I think you’ll like it too.  You’ll notice that its completely dedicated to my landscape work, no portraits or weddings, that for my other site now.  Give it a look, tell me what you think.

Holiday Newsletter is Out

I’ve wanted to do a better job of staying in contact with my clients and collectors, because of this I’m trying to get my newsletter out on a more regular basis. Interview with Photographer Jon Paul

I just returned from a photo trip chasing fall colors in the Eastern Sierras ending the trip in Lake Tahoe for an interview with photographer Jon Paul. I meet Jon a couple of years ago while on a similar photography related trip to the Tahoe area. My brother-in-law John and I stopped by his gallery to get a closer look at his amazing work. Jon Paul is a wonderful photographer and a really cool guy and we had a wonderful time chatting with him and see some of his newest images from his recent trip to Alaska. A few Halloween Pics

Every Halloween my wife has a witches hat party, she invites all her friends over for a Halloween themed party. Each lady has to decorate and wear a witches hat and some even come in full costume. Last year I did a witches session during the party. With Halloween just around the corner I thought I’d show you my three favorites.
