A Day with Kim Weston

August 8, 2008

O.K. so it was actually about an hour and a half but it was still very cool. If you’re not familiar with Kim Weston, I’m sure you’ve heard of the Weston name, their as close as you can get to the “First Family of Photography”. Kim is the grandson of famed photographer Edward Weston, the nephew of Brett Weston and the son of Cole Weston and he has followed in his family’s huge footsteps to create some good size ones of his own in the photography world.

I sat down with Kim to do an interview for the September 2008 issue of Kim was very open about both his work and family, he’s a wonderfully open and nice guy and I found myself thinking while we were talking “I could do this all day”. Afterward, Kim gave us, my wife and brother-in-law John, a tour of his darkroom, Edward Weston’s home and his darkroom. If was a wonderful experience and one I won’t soon forget, my only regret is I forgot to get a picture with him. What was I thinking! Oh well, maybe we’ll get a change to meet again sometime. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Kim does the majority of his work with an 8×10

Having a laugh!

Edward Weston’s darkroom, everything is original, even the CD’s on the left!

You can check out the interview in the September 2008 issue of The interview is part of the Master’s Series in which Kim will be announced as the newest member so shhh! You’re getting a sneak peak. The interview will be available as a video, audio podcast and written. In addition Kim will have a body of work in the gallery, look for it on or around September 7th.
